Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is the practice of diagnosing and treating medical conditions using natural remedies. A core belief of naturopathic doctors is that treating the root cause of disease is the key to health, rather than managing and masking symptoms. Prevention is central to naturopathic care and is accomplished through optimization of diet and lifestyle.
A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) is a licensed medical practitioner who has completed a four year post graduate medical program to be able to diagnose and treat a wide spectrum of medical conditions. NDs take into consideration a patient’s medical history along with lifestyle factors (such as diet, digestive health, and hormones) in order to obtain a detailed account of their patient’s health. This allows the ND to select the appropriate treatment modality for her patient. We are happy to coordinate with other medical practitioners to give our patient’s the best care!
Clinical Nutrition & Supplementation
Diet is a fundamental part of health. The food that we put into our bodies is the fuel which keeps our bodies running smoothly, alternatively it can contribute to the development of diseases. A naturopathic doctor’s goal is to help her patients optimize their diet by understanding dietary needs, and addressing deficiencies. In certain cases, supplements can be prescribed to aid what cannot be provided by diet alone. This can aid a variety of health conditions including hypertension, diabetes, skin conditions, digestive concerns and hormone imbalance, to name a few.
Traditional Chinese Medicine
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a unique method of diagnosing and treating medical conditions by creating balance in the body. This is accomplished by analyzing the body’s organ systems and supporting the proper flow of Qi (energy) through the body. TCM therapies include acupuncture, cupping and herbal medicine. Acupuncture needles are placed along pathways on the body’s surface which correspond to an internal organ system to aid the flow of Qi and remove obstructions. It also promotes blood flow and relieves pain. Cupping involves applying silicone cups to the skin to create suction. Similar to acupuncture this promotes blood flow, and relieves pain. Conditions treated with TCM include arthritis, sciatica, muscular pains, dysmenorrhea and indigestion.
Women’s Health
Women’s health encompasses everything from a woman’s first menstrual cycle, through pregnancy to menopause. Throughout a woman’s life her hormones are constantly in fluctuation and it is our goal to help support this system through appropriate diagnosis, lab testing, treatment of associated conditions, supplementation and lifestyle support. Some of the conditions we treat include infertility, PCOS, painful or irregular periods, endometriosis, and menopausal symptoms. We are also there to support our patients pre and postnatal to ensure the proper care for you and your baby throughout pregnancy.
